Claudine Lee (Oland) Eberhart, 78, of Shelbyville passed away peacefully at 5:24 pm on Friday, July 3. She was at home and surrounded by her son Sean, Rebecca and grandchildren Nathan, Nicholas and Danielle.

Deanie, as she was known to most, was born in Attica, Indiana on October 26, 1941. She was the daughter of Richard Leroy Oland and Irma K. (Thayer) Oland. She grew up with three loving siblings: Claudette A. Jean, Claudia S. “Susie” Rolf and Robert L. “Bob” Oland. Her father, mother, and sister Claudette all preceded her in death.

Deanie graduated from Attica High School in 1959. She was a social butterfly who worked at the local movie theater selling tickets and popcorn and sneaking in the boys to watch movies. Deanie married John C. Eberhart on July 7, 1963 in Attica. She and John met at a bowling alley where she was an avid bowler with a sweet stroke. Both she and John continued to bowl through the years in various leagues. John preceded her in death on February 24, 1996.

Deanie worked at REMC and Public Service in Attica and continued working at Public Service in Franklin once she was married and living in Shelbyville. She stayed home to raise her sons, Dirk and Sean, and then went to work at the school cafeteria, first at Little Marion Elementary and then at Shelbyville High School, some say to keep an eye on her mischievous sons. Deanie then made many friends while enjoying a successful banking career at Farmers National Bank, National City Bank, Citizens Bank and finally retiring from Shelby County Bank in 2009. After retirement, she enjoyed getting together with her friends and co-workers whom she loved and respected.

Deanie was a talented artist and a big fan of MacKenzie-Childs and created her own pieces, which were much prettier and more stylish. She shared this talent with others often giving away her artwork, painted furniture, pillows and other creations. She also enjoyed playing bridge, poker and other games with family and friends, making friendly bets at times. Yahtzee was her favorite, especially competing with her son Sean, Rebecca and her grandchildren. She enjoyed working in the yard and tending to her beautiful flowers. She leaves behind her cat Scout, who was her constant outside companion.

Deanie’s greatest joy was being a mother to her sons Dirk and Sean and being Mamaw to her devoted grandchildren, who all meant the world to her. Dirk, whom she greatly missed, preceded her in death on March 11, 1997. Nathan, Nicholas, and Danielle will always have someone looking over them, someone who loves them with all her heart.

A gathering of friends and family will take place at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 South Harrison Street in Shelbyville on Thursday, July 9 from 4 to 7 p.m.

A Celebration of Life service will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Bryan Trotter officiating. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.
