Doyle M. Hurst, 90, of Waldron

Doyle M. Hurst, 90, of Waldron went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, July 30, 2021, at 5:15 p.m. surrounded by his loving family.

Doyle was born September 6th, 1930, to Robert E. and Florence (Briley) Hurst; siblings were older brother, Wendell (Joyce) and younger sister, Marlyn (Duane) Lemmons. Both siblings and parents are deceased, as well as a son, Chris Eugene (2 days old); and three great-grandchildren, Stephen Kincade II, Emerson Hewson and Bryce Hurst.

He married Doris Mitchell Hurst on July 14, 1951, in Kansas, where he was stationed at Ft. Riley. They became parents to six children: Bob (Jackie), Donny (Chris), Cathy Lux, Debbie Gamble, Marcia Pence and, of course, Baby Chris. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren are: Brady (Mandy) Hurst, Devyn and Jayce; Bryan (Megan) Hurst, Selah and Micah James; Cody (Kay Ann) Hurst, Kendall; Emily (Justin) Lourash, Owen; Eric (Bobbi Ann) Wolfe; Tyler Wolfe; Ryan (Rachael) Wolfe, Spencer, Aiden, Sophie; Stephanie (Jeremy) Hewson, Remi, Easton, Braelyn and Hoyt; Josh (Mandy) Kincade, Kiara, Kaiden; Kristin (Patrick) Campbell, Adyson, Emery and Brantlee; Chris (Kelly) Stephens, Rylie, Lanie and Kade; Carrie (fiance’, Chad) Noel; Holton (fiance’, Harley) Curry, son, Jaxson; Jadelynn and Makinah; Lee (Larry) Larys; and Lauren Pence. Doyle also had several nieces and nephews that he was very close to. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Annie.

Doyle had always lived in the country and dreamed of farming when he graduated from Waldron High School, but Uncle Sam had other plans for him. He served two years in the Army (15 months in Korea) as a mechanic, which served him well during his years of farming as he could fix or repair almost anything. Doyle loved his years of caring for the land and his love of farming. He had a plaque on the wall with this inscription: God looked down on His planned paradise and said, “I need a caretaker” so God made a farmer.

Doyle loved his family and was always the one who insisted church (Mt. Pisgah Baptist) came first and all other activities came in second. Doyle had been a member of Mt. Pisgah for 80+ years and felt that his church, along with his family and close friends was all he needed to be happy.

Alzheimer’s is a terrible disease of the brain, and, although he forgot a lot of names, just a few months ago he remembered the words to The Old Rugged Cross and In the Garden, two of his favorite hymns.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 4, 2021, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday, August 5, 2021, at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, 3718 E. Blue Ridge Road, Shelbyville, Indiana. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, August 5, 2021, at the church, with Rev. Dr. Robb Barlow officiating.

Interment will be at Mount Pisgah Baptist Cemetery in Shelby County.

Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mount Pisgah Baptist Church Building Fund.

Online condolences may be shared with Doyle’s family at www.freemanfamilyfuneralhomes.com.
