Olena L. Carter, 87, of Shelbyville, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2023 at Morristown Manor.

She was born March 4, 1935, in Russel County, KY. To Omra Polston and Flora (Hogue) Polston.

Olena was a homemaker.  She was a caretaker at heart and loved to cook for her family. It was always important to her that her family was cared for.  In her free time, she enjoyed crocheting.

Olena and Harvey E. Carter married on June 20, 1956 and they enjoyed 63 years together before he preceded her in death on June 26, 2019.  Olena and her late husband were both longtime members of the Baptist Temple in Shelbyville.

She is survived by her daughter, Theresa (husband, David) Martin of Ft. Wayne; daughter, Penny (husband, Carl) Boggs of St. Paul; son, Paul D. Carter of Shelbyville; grandson, Jonathan (wife, Teri) Martin; granddaughter, Adrienne Raber (husband, Josh); great-grandson, Briggs Martin, great-granddaughter, Rory Martin, grandson, Ben (wife, Lisa) Boggs; great-granddaughter, Zoey Boggs; grandson, Brandon Boggs; grandson, Kyle (wife, Hannah) Carter; granddaughter, Paige (husband, Richard) Jones, her brothers, Ralph Polston, and Phil Polston, and her sister, Barbara Absher-Harbin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harvey, her brothers, Ted Polston and Frank Polson, and her sister, Norma Bowers.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday, February 5, 2023 at Murphy-Parks Funeral Services, 703 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville, IN.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, February 6, 2023 at the funeral home with Pastor David Martin officiating.

Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
