Shelbyville opens with road win at Rushville

Shelbyville opened a 19-8 first quarter advantage in a season opening win at Rushville, 59-43.

It was the sixth straight season opening win for the Golden Bears over Rushville.

Shelbyville's intense man-to-man defense and trapping backcourt pressure turned over the Lions and sparked easy baskets as the Golden Bears built a 29-15 halftime lead.  The Bears (1-0) led by as many as 21 in the third period, 42-21.

Both teams were without key contributors.  Shelbyville senior point guard Mitch Yeend was out for the first game.  Yeend is expected to play against Triton Central Saturday.

Rushville (0-1) played without freshman guard Quentin Cain and leading returning scorer 6' 6" junior Alec Evans (16 ppg).
