Shelbyville softball takes down Class 3A, No. 1 Yorktown

Shelbyville softball added two more Hoosier Heritage Conference wins to its record to stay atop the standings.

 

Following a dominant 14-2 win Friday over Delta, Shelbyville knocked off Class 3A, No. 1 Yorktown Saturday, 7-2.

 

Cheyenne Eads went the distance in the circle, allowing three hits while striking out six to improve to 5-1 this season for the Golden Bears (10-1, 4-0 HHC).

Karissa Hamilton (left) smashed her 11th home run of the season and Maddie Campton collected her third for a Shelbyville squad that defeated Class 3A, No. 1 Yorktown Saturday.

 

Karissa Hamilton delivered her team-leading 11th home run of the season and team-high 27th run batted in. The University of Kentucky commit also had two doubles on a 3-for-4 day that raised her batting average to .727 this season.

 

Maddie Campton blasted her third home run of the season and Katie Mathies, Addisenn Weaver and Kyle Edwards each had doubles for a Shelbyville squad that is hitting .425 this season with 29 doubles and 30 home runs.

 

Kaylyn Cochran took the loss for Yorktown (5-2, 0-2 HHC).

 

The Golden Bears lead the HHC with a 4-0 mark. Mount Vernon follows at 1-0. Pendleton Heights is 1-1 ahead of Delta (1-2), Yorktown (0-2) and New Castle (0-2). New Palestine and Greenfield-Central have their first HHC contests this week.

 

Shelbyville has four games scheduled this week starting today when Greenwood (3-4) comes to town.

 

The Golden Bears are at Connersville (4-5) Tuesday  before closing out the week hosting Franklin (5-2) Thursday and Columbus East (2-7) Friday.

 

Franklin has its own Kentucky recruit in standout pitcher Izzy Harrison. She is 3-0 this season with 61 strikeouts in 26 innings of work.
