Triton Central eliminates Southwestern from tennis sectional

Southwestern failed to slow down Triton Central's unbeaten tennis squad Wednesday and saw its season come to an end.

 

Triton Central defeated the Spartans, 5-0, in the only quarterfinal match of the Shelbyville Sectional.

 

The Tigers won all five matches in straight sets to set up a semifinal date today with Morristown. The host Golden Bears will take on Waldron in the other semifinal round match today.

 

The sectional championship match is Friday at Shelbyville High School.

 

On Wednesday, Brooklyn Schiffli defeated Kyra Robertson, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 singles.

 

Julia Sanders bested Lauryn Blondell at No.2 singles, 6-0, 6-0.

 

At No. 3 singles, Lelia Chougule topped Brooklyn Schneider, 6-2, 6-2.

 

The No. 1 doubles pairing of Ainsley Denton and Kelsey McGuire defeated Southwestern's McKinley Correll and Sydney Ebersold, 6-1, 6-1.

 

Emma Hutchinson and Alyssa Wheatley closed out the sweep with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Faith Kelley and Ella Rice at No. 2 doubles.

 

Triton Central is 14-0 this season.
