Seven TC, SHS athletes qualify for track and field regional

Seven Shelbyville and Triton Central athletes qualified for the Warren Central Track and Field Regional with solid performances Thursday at the Warren Central Sectional.

 

Triton Central sophomore Brad Schultz finished third in the 100-meter dash to automatically qualify for the regional. Schultz crossed the finish line in 11.29 seconds.

 

Warren Central seniors Ahijah Sandifer (10.98) and Mby Manneh-Yillah (11.07) finished 1-2, respectively.

 

Schultz teamed with freshmen Ray Crawford, Anthony Dunville and Brayden Wilkins to finish third in the 400 relay (44.64).

 

Warren Central won the 400 relay in 42.47; Roncalli was runner-up at 42.96.

 

Triton Central junior Aiden Lindsey finished third in the high jump at six feet, two inches.

 

Warren Central junior Brion Stephens set a new sectional record with a 7-0 clearance to win the event. Roncalli junior Eli Crouch cleared 6-9 to finish second.

 

Shelbyville junior Samuel Price placed third in the 400 (52.56) to finish behind Franklin Central senior Usman Kamara (51.19) and Franklin Central junior Alexander Parkhurst (51.84).

 

Shelbyville sophomore Beau Kenkel finished fourth in the 1,600 (4:51.34) to just miss the regional cut but he was later added to the regional field due to scratches from advancing athletes.

 

Franklin Central’s Justin Healey won the 400 in 4:41.05. His teammate, Max Young, was second in 4:42.12. Greenfield-Central’s Griffen Wheeler was third in 4:45.15.

 

Triton Central finished eighth in the team competition. Shelbyville was ninth and Morristown was 11th.
