Southern Illinois pole vaulter Erin Diemer tied for 23rd place Thursday in the NCAA West Preliminaries track and field meet in College Station, Texas.
Diemer, a Shelbyville High School graduate, cleared 13 feet, 4.25 inches in the competition. She cleared the height on her third and final attempt then missed all three attempts at what would have been a career-best mark of 13-8.25.
Baylor’s Tuesdi Tidwell and Arkansas’ Lauren Martinez tied for first place in the competition after clearing 14-0.
The NCAA postseason meet appearance was a first for Diemer. She came into the event seeded 33rd.
