Franklin collects track and field meet wins over Shelbyville, East Central

Shelbyville’s track and field program produced three individual winners and a relay win Tuesday in a three-way meet at Franklin with East Central.

In the boys meet, Shelbyville’s Beau Kenkel took first place in the 1,600 with a time of 4:49.08.

Ben Price won the 400 in 55.86.

And the 1,600 relay team of Kenkel, Benny Cazares, Alex Macharia and Sam Price collected first-place points with a time of 3:36.

In the girls meet, Shelbyville’s only win came from Kina Schultz in the 300 hurdles (50.23).

Producing runner-up finishes for Shelbyville were Blake Hughes (56.17 in 400), Sam Price (24.16 in 200), Ethan Lambert (132-7 in discus), Stefanie Howard (12:08.71 in 3,200) and Ashlynn Stout (72-9 in discus).

Franklin won the boys’ team title with 80 points. East Central finished second (55) and Shelbyville was third (31).

Franklin edged out East Central, 77-75, to win the girls’ team title. Shelbyville was third (15).

The Golden Bears travel to Greenfield-Central Thursday for a triangular meet that includes New Palestine.
