Prep Report: Strong pitching, timely hitting leads Shelbyville past Triton Central

Kade McNicholas and Gavyn Fisher limited Triton Central to four hits and one run over five innings Friday to lead Shelbyville to a 12-1 victory at Barnett Field.

McNicholas (1-0) pitched the first three innings and allowed one hit and struck out four Tigers. Fisher worked the final two innings and surrendered three hits and one earned run while striking out four.

Charlie Rife, a Bellarmine commit, had two extra base hits and drove in three runs to lead Shelbyville (3-2). Rife had a double and a triple and scored two runs.

Brayden Basey, a Trine commit, went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and three runs scored.

Caden Tackett went 2-for-2 with two runs scored.

 

 

Jayden Mays took the loss for Triton Central (0-3).

The Golden Bears travel today to Southport (0-2).

Triton Central hosts Ritter (0-4) Tuesday in an Indiana Crossroads Conference contest.

Baseball

North Decatur 11, Morristown 3

At Morristown, Ty Litmer limited the host Yellow Jackets to four hits and three runs in a complete-game performance Friday. The sophomore walked four and struck out seven to help the Chargers (2-2, 1-1 Mid-Hoosier Conference) split the two-game series.

Nate O’Dell went 2-for-4 with two RBIs to lead North Decatur, who led 5-2 going to the top of the seventh inning when it scored six runs.

With the loss, Morristown dropped to 1-2 (1-1 MHC).

Morristown travels Tuesday to Providence Cristo Rey (0-2).

 

 

South Decatur 9, Southwestern 5

At South Decatur, the visiting Spartans led 5-1 going to the bottom of the sixth inning when the Cougars erupted for eight runs to finish the sweep of the two-game series.

Devin Pate and Avery Seegers combined to limit the Spartans (0-3, 0-2 MHC) to seven hits while striking out 11 to secure the win.

Zaydun Sharp went 3-for-4 for South Decatur (4-1, 2-0 MHC). Seegers and Cameron Henderson each had two hits.

The Spartans host Austin (3-3) Tuesday.

 

 

Boys Golf

Greenwood Invitational

At the Legends Golf Course in Franklin, the defending state champion Center Grove Trojans claimed the top two spots and produced the medalist.

Center Grove Red totaled 299 to win the team title. Center Grove White was runner-up at 315.

San Hord earned the medalist honor with an even-par round of 72 for Center Grove.

In its first meet of the season, Morristown totaled 450.

Asher Caldwell led the way with a 90. Nick Stidham followed at 109.

Completing the Morristown scorecard were Web Walker (125), Carson Conrad (126) and Carson Essex (128).

Morristown is scheduled to face Rushville today.

 

 

Softball

North Decatur 14, Morristown 8

At Morristown, Keesha Crosland and Sarah Swain scattered nine hits and walked just two to lead North Decatur to a sweep of the Yellow Jackets Friday.

Crosland earned the win, pitching four innings, allowing five hits and three runs. Swain pitched the final three innings, allowing four hits and five runs, only one was earned.

Crosland went 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored and two RBIs. Swain had a double and a triple, scored three runs and drove in five.

North Decatur (4-1, 2-0 MHC) quickly built an 8-1 lead after two innings but the Yellow Jackets (1-2, 0-2 MHC) scored single runs in three consecutive innings to get within 8-4.

The Chargers added two runs in the top of the sixth and four more in the seventh to seal the win.

Morristown is at Herron (0-2) today.

 

 

Girls Tennis

Waldron 4, Rushville 1

At Rushville Friday, Waldron swept the doubles matches and added singles victories by Nichole Garner and Josee Larrison to win its season opener.

Garner defeated Audrey Gulley at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-4. Larrison was dominant at No. 2 singles defeating Isabella Wilson, 6-0, 6-0.

At No. 1 doubles, Kenzie Shaw and Megan Bogemann bested Cora Emory and Jade Edwards, 6-0, 6-1.

And Audrey Hogg and Emily Tyree cruised past Mallory McDaniel and Janne Vogel at No. 2 doubles, 6-1, 6-1.

Rushville’s lone win came at No. 3 singles where Jin Calaf defeated Riley Price, 6-1, 6-0.

Waldron hosts Morristown today.
