Triton Central tennis moved one step closer to clinching the Indiana Crossroads Conference championship Tuesday with a 5-0 win against Indianapolis Scecina.

The Tigers improved to 11-4 this season and 3-0 against ICC opponents. The Tigers are the only unbeaten team in the ICC standings with matches left against Ritter (0-1 ICC) and Lutheran (2-1 ICC).

Triton Central lost just two games in sweeping the Crusaders.

At No. 1 singles, Julia Sanders defeated Cierra Berry, 6-0, 6-1.

Emma Hutchinson was similarly successful at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-0 over Stacey Montgomery.

Lelia Chougule continued her strong season at No. 3 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Ella Gadreau.

At No. 1 doubles, Kelsey McGuire and Alyssa Wheatley defeated Jo Marshall and Alia Santos, 6-0, 6-0.

And Olivia Martin and Sarah Williams were equally dominant over Emily Gonzalez and Heather Willis, 6-0, 6-0.

Triton Central has won seven straight matches.

Lauren Grant and the doubles pairing of Olivia Reedy and Jana Cambera won doubles matches for Triton Central.

Triton Central is at Lutheran Friday.

Baseball

New Castle 7, Shelbyville 3

At New Castle, the Class 3A, No. 7 Trojans scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to secure the Hoosier Heritage Conference victory.

Jake Barber delivered a three-run double in the decisive fifth inning to push New Castle’s record to 12-2 (9-1 HHC).

Corbin Malott and Eli Cooper combined to allow 10 Shelbyville hits while striking out 12.

Brayden Basey took the loss for Shelbyville (11-7, 5-6 HHC). The senior allowed two hits and four runs in two innings of relief work. Dalton Jones got the start on the mound and pitched four innings, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out five.

Charlie Rife went 3-for-4 for the Golden Bears. Caden Tackett had two hits.

The two teams meet again today at Barnett Field in Shelbyville.

 

 

Eastern Hancock 19, Morristown 6

At Morristown, the visiting Royals (5-13) scored 10 runs in the top of the first inning to roll to their third win in their last four games.

Wyatt Sutton led Eastern Hancock with five hits, including two doubles, and seven RBIs.

Nash Hensley and Zach Arnold each had three hits and two RBIs.

Brayden Sullivan earned the win against Morristown (9-7). The sophomore pitched two innings, allowed one hit and walked seven. Reed Hedrick worked the final three innings.

Morristown is at Waldron (4-13) Thursday.

 

 

Cascade 12, Triton Central 0

At Triton Central, the Class 2A, No. 5 Cadets scored all 12 runs in the third inning to stay unbeaten against ICC opponents.

Logan Gibbs had a home run, scored two runs and drove in four to lead Cascade (17-3, 11-0).

Wyatt Blinn had a pair of RBIs to support his work on the mound. The senior allowed just one hit and one walk in a five-inning complete game performance.

Hayden May took the loss for Triton Central (7-7, 5-4 ICC). He allowed one hit and five walks. Three of the seven runs charged to May were unearned.

The Tigers travel to Cascade today to finish the ICC two-game series.

 

 

Boys Golf

Hauser 193, Brown County 202, Waldron 225

At Blue Bear Golf Course, Hauser produced a 9-shot victory over Brown County while the host Mohawks finished third with their season-best 9-hole score of the season.

Chase Martoccia led Hauser with a 44. Caleb Wallace shot 46.

Brown County’s Cooper VanNess was the medalist with a 43.

Lucas Shaw carded a season-best round of 46 to lead Waldron. Josh Kellums and Matthew Thomas each shot 58 and Cole Jones finished with a 63.

 

 

New Castle 153, Greenfield-Central 176, Shelbyville 182

At Hawk’s Tail Golf Course, New Castle’s Dillon Bergum shot a 2-under par round of 34 to lead the Trojans past a pair of HHC opponents.

Tyler Young led Greenfield-Central with a 40.

Jake Garrison topped Shelbyville’s scorecard with a 44. Eli Baker was one shot back at 45. Brock Wischmeyer finished at 46 and Nolan Chaney followed at 47. DaMiles McDuffey shot 57.

 

 

North Decatur 179, Morristown 187

At North Branch Golf Course, Morristown’s Asher Caldwell was the medalist with a 38.

Morristown produced its best 9-hole team score of the season with Nick Stidham shooting 46, Carson Essex posting 49 and Carson Conrad finishing at 54. Web Walker shot 61.

 

 

Softball

Triton Central 11, Ritter 4

At Triton Central, Madison Collins had two doubles and six RBIs to lead the host Tigers to their first Indiana Crossroads Conference win of the season.

Allison Raquet also had two hits and two RBIs.

Brylie Couch allowed nine hits and two walks and struck out 11 to earn the win for Triton Central (4-8, 1-4 ICC).

Ritter dropped to 3-16 this season and is 0-6 against ICC opponents.

Triton Central hosts Speedway (5-10, 2-3 ICC) today.

 

 

Girls Tennis

Edinburgh 5, Morristown 0

At Morristown, the visiting Lancers secured the sweep of the Yellow Jackets but not without a battle from Morristown’s No. 1 doubles team.

Brianna Batton and McKinley Kile were defeated by Alyssa Funkhouser ad Jillian Turner at No. 1 doubles, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (10).

At No. 2 doubles, Edinburgh’s Gracie Myers and Zoey Sida defeated Liz Cheek and Katie Hillock, 6-0, 6-0.

Bethany Burton lost just one game in a No. 1 singles win over Morristown’s Sarah Essex.

Jessica Walsh bested Abby Mendoza at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-0.

Payton Bryant defeated Brianna Flores at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-1.

Morristown is 0-13 this season.

 

 

Eastern Hancock 3, Waldron 2

At Waldron, the visiting Royals swept the singles matches.

Bianca DiVittoria defeated Waldron’s Nichole Garner at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-2.

Violette Sagalowicz topped Josee Larrison at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-1.

Savannah Hardin made it a clean sweep of the singles matches with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Riley Price.

Waldron’s Mackenzie Shaw and Megan Bogemann pushed their record to 12-1 this season at No. 1 doubles with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Tori Parker and Lexi Swauger.

Audrey Hogg and Emily Tyree defeated Eastern Hancock’s MiKayla Hardy and Abby Bolding at No. 2 doubles, 6-4, 6-4.

Waldron is 7-8 this season.

 

 

Shelbyville 3, Yorktown 2

At Mt. Vernon, Shelbyville won both doubles matches and added a win at No. 2 singles to take down the Tigers.

Emma Sandman produced the Golden Bears’ only singles victory.

Karlie Lawson and Renee Aldridge were victorious at No. 1 doubles.

Riley Lee and Sydney Baker collected a win at No. 2 doubles.

Shelbyville is 8-8.

 

 

Girls Track

Hoosier Heritage Conference Meet

At Mt. Vernon, Shelbyville senior Kilikina Schultz finished runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles (16.61 seconds), third in the 300 hurdles (49.1) and seventh in the 200 (28.8).

Shelbyville senior Stefanie Howard placed fifth in the 3,200 in 12:57.72.
