Gearlds sets TC record while leading Tigers to Shelby County Tournament golf title

Oliver Gearlds set a new Triton Central record on the way to leading the Tigers to the Shelby County Golf Tournament championship Saturday at Timbergate Golf Course in Edinburgh.

Gearlds (photo, fourth from left) notched seven birdies on the way to a program-record round of 65. The Indiana University Kokomo commit went out in 32 and came home in 33 to claim the medalist honor with a 7-under par score.

Triton Central’s Chase Chandler posted the second best round of 84 and Waldron’s Lucas Shaw followed at 90.

Triton Central’s 343 easily outdistanced Waldron (401) and Southwestern (496) for the team title.

Also scoring for head coach Josh Landis' TC squad were Derreck Uhls (95), Garrett Eberhardt (99) and Maxwell Ray (103).

Following Shaw on the Waldron scorecard were Josh Kellems (98), Isaiah Jones (105), Lucas Mitchell (108) and Matthew Thomas (125).

Eli Stone topped Southwestern at 110. Eli Smith (118), Trenton Davis (126) and Brayden Dunbar (142) also competed for the Spartans.
