Prep Report: Six unearned runs helps Yorktown sweep HHC series with Shelbyville

Three Shelbyville errors led to Yorktown closing out a 6-3 victory Wednesday over the visiting Golden Bears.

Gavyn Fisher went the distance for Shelbyville (9-10, 3-7 Hoosier Heritage Conference), allowing six hits and two walks but all six runs were unearned.

Landon Case limited Shelbyville to four hits and four walks to earn the win. Jacob Grim pitched the seventh inning to close out the victory for Yorktown (15-3, 10-2 HHC).

Peyton Fields and Garret Thurman each had two hits for Yorktown. Thurman had two runs batted in.

Aiden Smith led Shelbyville with three hits and a run scored. Eli Sheppard had two hits.

Baseball

Southwestern 12, Edinburgh 2

The Spartans used a 4-run second inning to take the lead and a 7-run fifth to seal a sweep of the Lancers (2-16, 0-10 Mid-Hoosier Conference).

Edinburgh managed just four hits and two walks off Southwestern (5-8, 3-6 MHC) and suffered a second consecutive loss to the Spartans, who won 17-7 Tuesday.

Cascade 12, Triton Central 1

An 8-run fifth inning secured a sweep for Cascade (12-4, 8-2 Indiana Crossroads Conference) over the Tigers (7-10, 4-6 ICC).

A trio of TC pitchers – Blaine Raider, Trevor Couch and Kaleb Murphy -- allowed nine hits and six walks.

Jacob Gannon had two hits for TC and scored his team’s lone run.

Boys golf

Park Tudor 173, Speedway 181, Triton Central 183

At Brickyard Crossing Golf Course in Speedway, Atticus Caress shot 37 to lead Park Tudor over the Sparkplugs and Tigers. Caress was the medalist.

Chase Chandler topped Triton Central with a 41. Oliver Gearlds shot 42. Derreck Uhls finished at 48 and Max Ray followed at 52.

Softball

North Decatur 13, Waldron 3

North Decatur scored three runs in four of the five innings to collect the MHC victory.

Alyssa Benson took the loss for Waldron (3-5-1, 3-3 MHC), allowing five hits and 10 walks. She struck out three Chargers.

Bre Barton had three hits and two RBIs against North Decatur (6-9, 3-4 MHC). Audrey Hogg and Benson each had two hits.

Girls tennis

Triton Central 5, Edinburgh 0

Courtney Washburn and Kaylynn Washburn needed three sets at No. 1 doubles to complete the sweep for the Tigers (6-8). The duo defeated Jillian Turner and Gracie Myers, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Maryrose Felling bested Jessica Walsh at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0.

At No. 2 singles, Hallie Schweitzer earned a 6-4, 6-0 win over Zoey Zida.

Maddy Brown scored a 6-2, 6-2 win over Izzy Richardson at No. 3 singles.

Lauren Grant and Audrey Canter defeated Mia Dodson and Lily Turner at No. 2 doubles, 6-4, 6-0.
