Triton Central rallies to defeat Waldron in Shelby County Baseball Tournament championship game

Four of Triton Central’s five runs were unearned in a Shelby County Baseball Tournament semifinal win Saturday over Morristown. The Tigers then pounded out 11 hits and used four different pitchers to roll to a championship game victory over Waldron.

Morristown starting pitcher Grant Kessler limited Triton Central to three hits and three walks in a 5-4 semifinal game loss to the Tigers. The senior had 12 strikeouts but eight Morristown errors led to four unearned runs.

Bryce Haney went the distance for Triton Central, striking out 13 in the win.

Cole Thomas had two hits and five different Tigers scored to get past the Yellow Jackets (7-7).

Dyllan Rutledge had three hits for Morristown and Bryce Bryant drove in all four runs on two hits.

In the other semifinal contest, Waldron scored twice in the fifth inning to secure a 4-3 victory over Southwestern.

Bryce Yarling had three hits for Waldron. Keith Settles had two hits and Jared Brooks drove in two runs.

Jacob Bennett pitched six innings, scattered eight hits and struck out 13 to get the win. Yarling pitched a scoreless seventh inning to get the save.

Southwestern dropped to 5-9.

Waldron jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead but Triton Central took the lead for good with a four-run third inning. The Tigers added three more runs in the fourth and four runs in the fifth to complete a 12-3 victory.

Mathew Shircliff had three hits for Triton Central (9-10). He scored two runs and had three RBIs. Trevor Couch drove in three runs on two hits and Nick Riggins and Cole Thomas each had two hits.

Blaine Raider allowed all three Waldron runs but settled down and pitched into the fourth inning. Ben Toth, Couch and Janssen Capps did not allow a run in relief of the sophomore.

Yarling took the loss in the championship game, allowing six hits, three walks and seven runs.

Brooks had three hits in the loss for Waldron (4-14). Yarling, Bennett and Corbin Yantiss each had two hits.
