Waldron tops Triton Central to win Shelby County Girls Tennis Tournament

Waldron pinned a second loss this season on Triton Central and, in doing so, captured the Shelby County Tennis Tournament title.

Waldron and Triton Central advanced to Saturday’s championship match with wins over Morristown and Southwestern, respectively.

In the championship, the Mohawks won four matches in straight sets to secure a 4-1 victory.

Triton Central’s only win came at No. 2 doubles where Lauren Grant and Audrey Canter defeated Waldron’s Grace Ross and Jackie Corlett, 6-0, 6-2.

At No. 1 singles, Waldron’s Josee Larrison topped Allison Howley, 6-1, 6-1.

Emerson Lindsey scored a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles over Hallie Schweitzer.

And Emily Tyree bested Maddy Brown at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-1.

Waldron’s No. 1 doubles team of Audrey Hogg and Riley Price defeated Kaylynn Washburn and Courtney Washburn, 6-4, 6-3.

Triton Central defeated Southwestern, 4-1, in the semifinals.

Southwestern’s No. 1 doubles pairing of McKinley Correll and Lauryn Blondell defeated Kaylynn Washburn and Courtney Washburn, 6-1, 6-2.

Maryrose Felling topped Ella Rice at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0.

Waldron won a pair of competitive doubles matches to secure a 5-0 victory over Morristown in the other semifinal.

Hogg and Price defeated Bri Flores and Remi Spicklemire, 7-5, 6-1.

Ross and Corlett won at No. 2 doubles over Olivia Trlak and Ashlee Balinger, 6-2, 6-4.
