Prep Report: Fisher leads Shelbyville to sweep of New Castle

Shelbyville’s 1-2 starting pitching punch of Aiden Smith and Gavyn Fisher led the Golden Bears to a Hoosier Heritage Conference sweep of New Castle.

Fisher twirled an 8-0 three-hitter Wednesday night at New Castle to improve the Golden Bears to 11-11 this season and 5-7 in the HHC. Fisher walked two and struck out 12 one night after Smith went six innings, allowed one hit and struck out 12 in an 8-2 victory at Barnett Field.

Eli Sheppard and Luke Brinkman combined to drive in five Shelbyville runs. The Golden Bears took advantage of six walks and two hit batters to pull away for the win.

Gavin Frazier took the loss for New Castle (4-14, 1-11 HHC). He allowed four hits and six walks in two innings on the mound.

Landon Semler had two of New Castle’s three hits.

Shelbyville is scheduled to host Whiteland (10-9), its first-round sectional opponent, Friday at Barnett Field.

Baseball

Monrovia 11, Triton Central 8

Eli Wagner, Darius Compton, Nolan Hendricks and Karter Simmons each drove in two runs to help Monrovia earn an Indiana Crossroads Conference split with Triton Central.

The Bulldogs (8-11, 5-7 ICC) scored five runs in the second inning and four in the third to open up a 10-1 lead.

Compton earned the win, pitching five innings and allowing seven hits while striking out nine. Simmons pitched the final two innings.

Eli Sego had three hits for Triton Central (10-11, 5-7 ICC).

Trevor Couch was the most effective of the three Tiger pitchers. He allows one hit and one run in 4.1 innings. Kaleb Murphy and Blaine Raider each surrendered five runs.

Triton Central is set to host Indianapolis Tech (9-9) Friday in Fairland.

Boys golf

Triton Central 180, Beech Grove 226

At Hawk’s Tail Golf Course, Oliver Gearlds led Triton Central with a 1-under par score of 35.

Chase Chandler followed at 46. Garrett Eberhardt shot 49. Max Ray finished at 50 and Braden Brown shot 55.

Nate Gallagher led Beech Grove with a 54.

Softball

Triton Central 8, Speedway 0

Lillian Fillippinie had two hits and five RBIs to lead Triton Central to a shutout victory over the Sparkplugs (5-8, 3-4 ICC).

Brylie Couch limited Speedway to one hit and struck out 11 to earn the victory.

Erica Ray took the loss, allowing seven hits and four walks in three innings.

Triton Central improved to 14-4 (5-2 ICC) and travel Friday to Southport (7-14).

Girls tennis

Waldron 5, Edinburgh 0

Waldron’s No. 1 doubles pairing of Audrey Hogg and Riley Price needed a third-set win to complete the sweep of the Lancers. Hogg and Price defeated Jillian Turner and Gracie Meyers, 6-7, 6-3, 10-6.

At No. 2 doubles, Grace Ross and Alivia Fischer topped Mia Dodson and Lily Turner, 6-4, 6-3.

Waldron’s Josee Larrison, Emerson Lindsey and Emily Tyree lost a total of six games while winning all three singles matches.

Waldron will compete in the Mid-Hoosier Conference tournament Saturday.
