A Shelby Eastern school will play for a girls tennis sectional title next week.
The IHSAA announced the sectional pairings Monday for the 48th Annual IHSAA Girls Tennis State Tournament. A total of 307 schools were drawn and placed into brackets for the team tournament which begins May 17 and runs through May 20.
The 64 sectional winners will advance to regional play May 23-24 at 16 sites. The regional champions will advance to semistate play May 27 at Center Grove, Culver Academies, Homestead and Jasper.
The eight-team state finals are scheduled for June 2-3 with state quarterfinal matches played at Carmel and Center Grove with the next day’s semifinals and the state championship matches also at Center Grove High School in Greenwood.
Shelbyville is again the host site for a five-team sectional featuring all five Shelby County schools. Shelbyville will open the tournament on May 17 against Triton Central. The Golden Bears have defeated the Tigers twice this season.
The winner advances to a May 18 semifinal contest against Southwestern. The other semifinal pits sister schools Waldron and Morristown against each other. The Mohawks have defeated Morristown twice this season.
The sectional championship is slated for May 19.
