Prep Report: Golden Bears defeat Warren Central for fourth-straight victory

Warren Central pushed two runs across the plate in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game Monday at Barnett Field but Shelbyville responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning that sealed a 4-3 victory.

McKayne Wickham, Logan Prickett and Brock Kuhn combined to limit the Warriors (16-7) to three hits and three runs. Prickett closed out the sixth inning and earned the win in relief of Wickham, who struck out six in five innings on the mound.

Gavyn Fisher had two hits and Kuhn drove in two runs in addition to earning the save.

The Golden Bears (13-11, 5-7 Hoosier Heritage Conference) have won four straight and start a two-game series today with Greenfield-Central (12-8-2, 7-5 HHC).

Baseball

Triton Central 11, Oldenburg Academy 2

At Oldenburg Academy, Mathew Shircliff had three hits, scored two runs and drove in two more to lead Triton Central (11-11) to its fourth win in its last five games.

Eli Sego and Tucker Hutchinson each had two hits and four TC pitchers limited the Twisters (7-10) to four hits while striking out eight.

The Tigers begin a two-game Indiana Crossroads Conference series with Indianapolis Lutheran (13-9) today in Fairland.

Waldron 7, Edinburgh 4

At Waldron on Senior Night, Bryce Yarling had two hits, drove in two runs and stole three bases to lead Waldron to the Mid-Hoosier Conference victory.

Jacob Lindsey and Jordan Bennett combined to limit the Lancers (3-19, 0-11 MHC) to four runs – all scored in the second inning.

Hunter Dodson and Corbin Yantiss each had two hits for Waldron (6-16, 4-7 MHC).

The two teams meet against Thursday in Edinburgh.

Hauser 14, Morristown 1

At Hauser, the Jets pounded out 11 hits and Zayne McCanlis pitched a three-hitter to drop the Yellow Jackets to 10-9 (6-4 MHC).

Hauser (12-11-1, 9-2 MHC) scored three runs in the first and five more in the second to collect the conference win. Simeon Wasil, Holden Pittman and Nathan Worland each had two hits. Wasil and Pittman each drove in three runs.

The two teams meet against today in Morristown.

Boys Golf

Indiana Crossroads Conference Tournament

At Pleasant Run Golf Course, Triton Central finished fifth in the team standings while senior Oliver Gearlds placed second in the individual standings to Monrovia’s Titus Boswell (73).

Softball

Whiteland 4, Triton Central 3

At Whiteland, Jayda McKee and Briley Couch each had two hits but the Warriors ended Triton Central’s five-game win streak.

Couch took the loss for the Tigers (15-5), pitching four innings and allowing five hits and all four Whiteland runs. Lillian Fillippinie pitched two scoreless innings in relief.

The Tigers are at Covenant Christian (11-11) today.

Hauser 17, Morristown 0

At Hauser, the Jets scored nine runs in the first inning and cruised to the MHC-clinching win.

Lucie Asher and Paige McDaniel each had three hits and two RBIs for Hauser (18-6, 11-0 MHC).

Regan Mack and McDaniel combined to limit the Yellow Jackets (9-8, 5-4 MHC) to one hit and one walk while racking up 11 strikeouts.

The two teams meet again today in Morristown.

Girls tennis

Trinity Lutheran 4, Southwestern 1

Southwestern’s No. 1 doubles team of McKinley Correll and Lauryn Blondell improved to 14-2 this season with a 6-0, 6-3 victory.
