Prep Report: Morristown's Goedde wins Warren Central Sectional high jump title

Morristown senior Oakleigh Goedde was the only high jumper to clear five feet Tuesday at the Warren Central Sectional to capture the sectional championship.

With the win, Goedde qualified for the Franklin Regional on May 23.

Four other high jumpers cleared 4-10 but all four failed to get over 5-0. New Palestine’s Kayla Rieman finished second and Roncalli’s Lydia Stahley was third. All three advance to the regional.

No other Shelby County athlete advanced from the Warren Central or Franklin Sectional Tuesday.

Other top-10 finishers were Morristown’s Maggie Lutes (6th in 400 meters, 1:04), Triton Central’s Brynne Aukerman (8th in 800, 2:40.28), Morristown’s Raegan Kleine (6th in 1,600, 5:54.67), Shelbyville’s Hannah Wright (7th in 3,200, 13:06.93), Triton Central’s Maddy Brown (6th in long jump, 14-10.5) and Waldron’s Riley Price (9th in 800, 2:36.07).

Baseball

Shelbyville 2, Greenfield-Central 0

Shelbyville baseball secured its fifth-straight win behind Aiden Smith’s five-hit shutout Tuesday at Barnett Field.

The freshman did not walk a batter and struck out 10 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference victory over visiting Greenfield-Central.

Smith and G-C’s Conner Sims were locked in a scoreless duel for five innings. Smith delivered a scoreless sixth and Shelbyville (14-11, 6-7 HHC) posted two runs in the bottom half of the inning to chase Sims from the game. Alex Sanchez closed out the inning for the Cougars (12-9-2, 7-6 HHC) but the damage was done.

Luke Jackson and Logan Prickett each had two hits for Shelbyville. Prickett and Brock Kuhn drove in both runs.

Grant Shepherd and A.J. Oden each had two hits for Greenfield-Central.

The two teams meet again today in Greenfield.

Hauser 10, Morristown 4

At Morristown, Karson Stuckey had two hits and scored three runs while Owen McIntyre limited Morristown to five hits and four runs over six innings on the mound.

The senior struck out 10 Yellow Jackets.

Bryce Bryant had three hits and drove in two of Morristown’s four runs. Grant Kessler, Dyllan Rutledge and Kamdyn Gaines pitched for Morristown (10-10, 6-5 Mid-Hoosier Conference).

Hauser improved to 13-11-1 (10-2 MHC).

Morristown is at Bethesda Christian Thursday.

Triton Central 7, Indianapolis Lutheran 6

At Triton Central, the visiting Saints scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to take their first lead of the game but Triton Central rallied in the bottom half of the inning to collect their fifth win in their last six games.

Eli Sego had three hits and Mathew Shircliff drove in three runs to get TC above .500 at 12-11 (6-7 Indiana Crossroads Conference).

Bryce Haney went the distance, allowing eight hits and six runs while striking out nine.

Ryan Redding pitched three innings for Lutheran (13-10, 6-7 ICC) and allowed 10 hits and five runs. Micah Mackay had two hits including a grand slam.

The two teams play again today at Lutheran.

Boys golf

Triton Central 172, Indianapolis Ritter 183

Triton Central senior Oliver Gearlds earned the medalist honor with a round of 38.

Softball

Carmel 8, Shelbyville 3

At Carmel, the host Greyhounds pounded out 10 hits and used a 5-run fourth inning to steal a win from Shelbyville (16-8).

The Golden Bears scored a run in the top of the first off Carmel starting pitcher Lucy Broughton but were held scoreless until the seventh inning where they were trailing 8-1.

Broughton scattered seven hits and allowed just one earned run to improve the Greyhounds to 6-14 this season.

Hailey Pogue took the loss in the pitcher’s circle for Shelbyville, who will celebrate Senior Night Thursday in its regular-season finale against Cathedral (17-8), winners of nine straight.

Hauser 19, Morristown 7

At Morristown, Hannah Taylor had two hits, including a home run, and had four RBIs to lead Hauser (19-6, 12-0 MHC) to a clean sweep of all its conference foes.

Neveah Cox had three hits, including a home run, and four RBIs for Morristown (9-9, 5-5 MHC). Madi Espich had two hits.

Alexia Rogers took the loss in the pitcher’s circle for the Yellow Jackets, who host Jac-Cen-Del (7-14) Thursday.

Rushville 16, Waldron 2

At Waldron, Layla Shepherdson and Belle Gossett each drove in three runs to lead the Lions (12-11) over the Mohawks (3-12-1).

Makenna Ripberger and Becca Tabeling combined to limit Waldron to four hits and two runs.

Alyssa Benson had a double and a walk and scored both of Waldron’s runs.

The Mohawks are at Edinburgh (11-11, 8-2 MHC) Thursday.

Girls tennis

Hauser 3, Triton Central 2

Hauser swept the singles matches to defeat the Tigers (12-10).

At No. 1 doubles, Audrey Canter and Lauren Grant defeated Hauser’s Mattie Foster and Addyson Barriger, 6-3, 6-0.

Olivia Reedy and Kaylynn Washburn topped Abby Blair and Kayden Miller at No. 2 doubles, 6-1, 6-1.

Bella Klips bested Maryrose Felling at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.

Charlie Clark topped Allison Howley at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-0.

Lydia Jordan defeated Courtney Washburn, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
