TC's Wilkins, six Golden Bears advance to regional competition

Triton Central’s Brayden Wilkins qualified for three track and field regional events and six Shelbyville athletes will join him at the Greenfield-Central Regional on May 25.

Wilkins finished third in the 100-meter dash (11.06 seconds), the 200 meters (22.35) and the long jump (20 feet, 11 inches) to advance out of Thursday’s Greenfield-Central Sectional.

Shelbyville’s Ethan Lambert (main photo) placed third in the discus event with a best throw of 151 feet to also earn an automatic berth in the regional.

Also for Shelbyville, Blake Hughes and Beau Kenkel finished fourth in two events and secured at-large berths into the regional. Hughes finished the 400 in 51.81 and Kenkel crossed the finish line in the 800 in 2:02.41.

 

 

Shelbyville’s 3,200 relay team finished fifth and received an at-large spot to the regional. Elijah Von Werder, Ben Price, Teegan Ervine and Kenkel (photo) stopped the clock at 8:40.95.

Other top-10 finishes at the G-C Sectional from Shelby County athletes included Morristown’s Tyler Schonfeld (ninth in 100, 11.34), Cade Mahin (fifth in 400, 52.49) and Kamdyn Gaines (eighth in long jump, 20-0.5). The quartet of Mahin, Gaines, Wyatt Hodgin and Schonfeld placed fifth in the 1,600 relay (3:33.96).

Triton Central’s Ethan Cales placed fourth in the 110 hurdles (15.97); Zeke Robertson was eighth in the 300 hurdles (43.24) and ninth in the 110 hurdles (16.84); Willy Baugh finished sixth in the shot put (47-8.5); and Hadyn Ball placed fifth in the discus (129-6).

Also for Shelbyville, Christian Powell finished seventh in the 200 (23.41) and Keagan Turner was eighth in the pole vault (9-0). Powell, Kenkel, Von Werder and Hughes finished sixth in the 1,600 relay (3:35.11).

Southwestern and Waldron athletes competed at the Columbus North Sectional Thursday.

Scoring top-12 finishes were Southwestern's Dane Kissell (12th in 800, 2:14.51) and Owen Stringer (11th in 110 hurdles, 18.12) and Waldron's Will Larrison (seventh in 1,600, 4:43.75; and eighth in 3,200, 10:42.2) and Braylon Williams (seventh in shot put, 44-9).
