Shelbyville defeats Waldron to capture girls tennis sectional championship

Shelbyville tennis used a pair of singles victories and a pair of doubles victories to secure the sectional title Friday over Waldron, 4-1.

The Golden Bears’ No. 1 doubles pairing of Karlie Lawson and Sophia Asher defeated Audrey Hogg and Riley Price, 6-2, 7-6 (7).

Shelbyville’s No. 2 doubles team also needed a second-set tiebreaker to top Grace Ross and Jackie Corlett, 7-5, 7-6 (8).

At No. 1 singles, Emma Sandman dispatched of Josee Larrison, 6-2, 6-0.

Shelbyville’s fourth victory came at No. 2 singles where Renee Aldridge defeated Emerson Lindsey, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Waldron’s lone match victory came at No. 3 singles where Emily Tyree bested Ella Connolly, 6-0, 6-2.

With the sectional win, Shelbyville advances to the Center Grove Regional to face Roncalli Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. The other regional semifinal match Tuesday pits Perry Meridian against Franklin.

The regional championship match is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
