Prep Report: TC's Gearlds runner-up at Franklin Central Invitational

Led by Eli Baker’s round of 88, Shelbyville posted a team score of 376 Saturday at the Franklin Central Invitational at Smock Golf Course in Greenwood.

Baker was followed on the Shelbyville scorecard by Jake Garrison (93), DaMiles McDuffey (97), Cruz Nedderman (career best 98) and Brock Wischmeyer (102).

Columbus North captured the team title with a 312, edging Center Grove by one stroke. Silver Creek was third (315) in the 23-team invitational that featured Shelbyville and Triton Central (357).

Triton Central’s Oliver Gearlds (photo) and Columbus North’s John Merritt tied for runner-up with 75s.

Baseball

Jennings County 7, Shelbyville 2

At Jennings County Saturday, Cole Sigler and Keegan Manowitz kept the Golden Bears in check in their regular-season finale. Sigler allowed three hits and three walks in six innings of work. Manowitz pitched a scoreless seventh inning.

Sigler also had three hits for the Panthers (12-15), scored two runs and drove in three.

Dalton Jones had two hits for Shelbyville (14-13).

McKayne Wickham took the loss, allowing nine hits and six runs over five innings on the mound.

Southwestern 13, Indy Genesis Homeschool 3

The Spartans scored at least four runs in every other inning Friday in their regular-season finale and secured head coach Chris Ingels his 100th career victory.

Southwestern (8-11) won its final three games of the regular season.

Ben Meyers and Sammy Moore each had two hits for Indy Genesis (6-16).

Triton Central 10, Waldron 1

A five-run third inning was enough to get the Tigers past the Mohawks Friday.

Tucker Hutchinson had two hits and three runs batted in for Triton Central (14-12). Avynn Whitaker also had two hits and two RBIs.

Hayden Beaver pitched four innings and allowed one hit to earn the win. Ben Toth allowed one earned run over the final three innings.

Waldron dropped to 7-17.
