Triton Central captures pair of Shelby County Tournament titles at Waldron

Triton Central captured Shelby County Baseball and Softball Tournament titles Saturday at Waldron.

Baseball

Class 2A, No. 4 Triton Central defeated Morristown, 14-1, in the semifinal round and Southwestern, 14-3, in the championship game.

The Tigers scored 13 runs in the first two innings against the Yellow Jackets (4-12) and Hayden Beaver allowed just five hits and one walk while striking out nine in five innings of work.

Brayden Hoover had three hits, scored two runs and had three RBI. Hayden May finished with two doubles, scored two runs and drove in four.

In the other semifinal, Southwestern defeated Waldron, 12-1.

James Oliver allowed just three hits and struck out 14 to lead the Spartans to the win.

Ian Bunch had three walks and a home run. The senior scored four runs and drove in three. Kyle Beck, Caleb McCracken and Oliver each drove in two runs.

Jared Brooks took the loss for Waldron (10-7).

In the championship, Triton Central (17-2) scored eight runs in the first inning and cruised to another five-inning victory.

Blaine Raider pitched the first three innings to earn the win. He allowed four Southwestern hits, two walks and all three runs. Logan Plew and Ben Toth each pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

Mathew Shircliff, Bryce Haney and Hoover each had two hits. Kail Slaughter, Kellan Dishman, Shircliff, Hoover and Haney each drove in two runs.

Southwestern dropped to 2-12.

 

 

Softball

Triton Central scored 40 runs on the way to the Shelby County Tournament title.

In the semifinal, the Tigers defeated Waldron, 23-0.

Triton Central scored 13 runs in the first and 10 runs in the third to support starting pitcher Madi Peterson. The sophomore allowed just three hits and a walk in five innings in the circle.

Madison Collins had four hits and drove in five runs. Jalynn Keith had two hits and four RBI.

Waldron dropped to 5-5 this season.

With the win, Triton Central advanced to the championship game against Morristown due to Southwestern not fielding a program.

Head coach Aaron Pyle went with freshman June Murdick in the pitcher’s circle and she helped deliver a 17-4 victory over the Yellow Jackets (5-8). Murdick allowed five hits and four runs while striking out nine.

Lilli Fillippinie had two hits and four RBI for Triton Central (9-6). Murdick also had three hits and two RBI.
