Collegiate Update: Rife homers twice in Atlantic Sun Conference series

Shelbyville graduate Charlie Rife homered in back-to-back Atlantic Sun Conference games at Eastern Kentucky.

On Friday, Rife blasted a grand slam, his fourth home run of the season for Bellarmine, in an 8-7 loss at Eastern Kentucky.

Rife followed that performance Saturday with a two-hit, five RBI day. He hit a three-run home run in the second inning but the Knights still lost 17-7.

 

 

Rife also had a two-hit game on April 30 for Bellarmine in a 9-5 loss to Morehead State.

Here is a look at other Shelby County graduates competing at the collegiate level.

 

 

Madisen Hinderliter

The Shelbyville graduate finished 15th in the discus (34.74 meters) and eighth in the hammer throw (43.44 meters) for St. Francis at the 2024 Crossroads League Track and Field Outdoor Championships at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion.

 

 

Zaleeya Martin

The Shelbyville graduate placed 16th in the 100 meters (12.54 seconds) and 15th in the 200 (26.10) for the University of Indianapolis at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Truman University in Kirksville, Missouri.

Martin also helped UIndy’s 400 relay team to a third-place finish in 47.51.

 

 

Elizabeth Kemper

The Triton Central graduate helped Taylor University to a third-place finish in the Crossroads League Championship at Otter Creek Golf Course in Columbus, Indiana.

Kemper tied for 19th in the individual standings with rounds of 84, 84 and 80 for a three-round total of 248.

 

 

Allison Batten

The Morristown graduate finished 17th in the 400 (1:05.98) for Trine University in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Calvin University in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

 

 

Katie Mathies

The Shelbyville graduate had a double and drove in a run Saturday in DePauw softball’s 4-3 loss at Denison in Granville, Ohio.

DePauw dropped to 24-13-1 overall and 12-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference standings.

 

 

Cory Taylor

The Shelbyville graduate went 1-for-4 Friday with a stolen base and a RBI in Eastern Michigan’s 10-9 loss in 10 innings at Toledo.

Taylor also had a RBI Saturday in a 4-3 loss and Sunday in an 11-1 loss at Toledo to push his team-leading RBI total to 35 this season.

Eastern Michigan dropped to 13-32 overall and 8-16 in the Mid-America Conference standings.

 

 

Karissa Hamilton

The Shelbyville graduate had two hits and two walks Sunday for Kentucky softball in an 8-7 loss in eight innings to No. 3 Tennessee.

Kentucky is 30-21 this season.

 

 

Abby Eberhardt

The Triton Central graduate had a single and drove in a run Thursday in Manchester softball’s 10-3 loss at Defiance.

Manchester is 19-17 this season.

 

 

Kina Schultz

The Shelbyville graduate placed 10th in the 110 hurdles (16.28) and 17th in the 400 hurdles (1:14.94) for Muskingum University at the Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Heidelberg University.

 

 

Kylee Edwards

The Shelbyville graduate had a single Sunday in Mississippi State’s 2-1 win over No. 14 Georgia that helped the Bulldogs win the three-game series and improve to 33-17 (12-12 Southeastern Conference).

With the win, Mississippi State finished with at least a .500 record in the SEC for the first time since 2007.
