The Memorial Day celebration at the Shelby County Courthouse is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday.

The Shelby Community Band will perform from 10 to 10:30 a.m. at the courthouse, 407 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

A choir performance will follow leading up to the 11 a.m. ceremony.

The band and choir will perform the Star Spangled Banner and the band will perform an Armed Forces Salute.

The guest speaker for the Memorial Day celebration is 2004 Shelbyville High School graduate Adam Barlow (photo).

Barlow attended Morehead State University on a full Army ROTC scholarship and was commissioned in 2008 as an infantry officer in the Indiana Army National Guard.

His significant assignments include serving as a Rifle Company platoon leader in Afghanistan and serving as the commander of the Long Range Surveillance Company, an Airborne Ranger company that is the legacy unit of the heralded Indiana Rangers that served in Vietnam.

Barlow currently serves as the State Airborne Safety Officer for all parachute operations in Indiana. He is a graduate of the Army Ranger School, Airborne School, Pathfinder School, Air Assault School, and Reconnaissance and Surveillance Leader Course.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Senior Parachutist Badge, and the German, Slovak and Portuguese Parachutist Wings. His overseas service tours include Afghanistan, Slovakia and Portugal in addition to numerous stateside deployments.

Barlow holds a bachelor’s degree in Government, a masters of Divinity and is near completion of a doctorate of Ministry in Transformational Leadership.

He and his wife, Alli, own and operate “The Mission at the Mill,” a nonprofit providing free marital retreats to service members and first responders, as well as Full Canopy Real Estate, both based in Shelby County.

The couple resides in Shelbyville and have two children, Aurora and Weston, and are expecting another daughter later this year.
