Norma Ruth Trimnell, 88, Flat Rock

Norma Ruth Trimnell, 88, of Flat Rock passed away Sunday, November 10, 2019 at Walker Place in Shelbyville.

 

She was born December 14, 1930, in Greenwood, the daughter of Henry L. Sr. and Alma R. (Hamilton) Mohr. On March 30, 1958, she married Mahlon Gene Trimnell, and he preceded her in death on May 3, 2018.

 

Norma is survived by her son, Roger Trimnell and wife, Angie, of Waldron; daughter, Mary Ruth Trimnell of West Des Moines, Iowa; grandchildren, Abbi Trimnell and Ryan Trimnell; sisters, Wilma Jean Newhouse of Covington, Kentucky, and Betty Jo Crockett of Owensboro, Kentucky; sister-in-law, Norita Mohr of Fairland; and several nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to Mahlon, Norma was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Brenda Marlene Trimnell; brother, Henry L. Mohr Jr.; and infant sister, Neva Jane Mohr.

 

Norma graduated in 1948 from Moral Township High School, received her Bachelors degree from Ball State University in 1953, and Masters of library science degree from Indiana University.

She was a member of Lewis Creek Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and was the church librarian.

 

Norma was an elementary teacher and media specialist. She taught at Indianapolis Public School No. 39, Shelby Township, Columbus, Franklin Township, Carthage and retired from Waldron Elementary in 1990, with an accumulation of 31 years.

 

She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Shelby County Retired Teachers Association and Tri Sigma Sorority. Norma served on the Shelby County Public Library board.

 

Norma loved God, her family, Bible study and living in the country.

 

She enjoyed reading.

 

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, November 15, 2019 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 16, 2019 at Lewis Creek Baptist Church, 1400 E 600 S. Waldron, IN 46182.

 

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, with Pastor Harvey Taylor officiating.

Interment will be at Lewis Creek Cemetery.
