James Mitchell “Jim” Coombs, 63, of Shelbyville passed away Saturday, May 23, 2020, at his home.
He was born January 22, 1957, in Galesburg, Illinois, the son of Ted and Guina (Beaman) Coombs.
Jim is survived by his sons, Justin Coombs of New Palestine, and JaCoby Coombs and wife, Jill, of Morristown; brothers, John Coombs and wife, Janet, of Morristown, and Jesse Coombs of Bloomington; girlfriend, Debbie Reneau of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Emily, Caydon and Keegan; and a large extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jim graduated in 1975 from Bloomington South High School, and obtained his degree in HVAC from Ivy Tech College.
He owned and operated Coombs Air Conditioning and Heating for 20 years, retiring in 2018.
Jim was a member of the Aerie Eagles Lodge No. 766 and American Legion Post No. 70.
He enjoyed watching the movies “Rocky” and “Dancing with the Wolves.” Jim also enjoyed watching football.
Jim loved his family and the time he spent with them.
He also leaves behind his buddy, Hunter, and was preceded by his dog, Roscoe.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 28, 2020, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 29, 2020, at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.
A Celebration of Jim’s life will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 30, 2020, JaCoby’s home, 7971 N. Morristown Road in Morristown.
