Avonelle Sue Banker, 90, of Shelbyville

Avonelle Sue Banker, 90, of Shelbyville passed away Saturday, August 1, 2020, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

 

She was born February 15, 1930, in Shelbyville, the daughter of George Ray and Bertha Lucille (Wicker) Brown. On June 1, 1947, she married Dale E. Banker, and he preceded her in death on April 21, 1999.

 

Avonelle is survived by her sons, Stephen Banker and wife, Ruth, of Marion, and Kim Banker of Shelbyville; daughters, Debbie Kanouse and husband, Ed, and Lou Ann Thurston and husband, Roger, both of Shelbyville; ten grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and great-nieces; and a great-nephew.

 

In addition to Dale, Avonelle was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Elizabeth Lucile Brown; and brother, Paul Duane Brown.

 

Avonelle graduated in 1948 from Shelbyville High School.

 

She was a member of the Pilgrim Holiness Church in Franklin.

 

Avonelle formerly worked in the cafeteria at Loper Elementary School. After retiring, she enjoyed getting together monthly with her friends and co-workers.

 

She was an awesome cook and loved family gatherings.

 

Avonelle enjoyed crocheting and knitting, and had made an afghan for nearly every member of her family.

 

She was a devoted Indianapolis Colts fan.

 

Visitation will be from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, August 6, 2020, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

 

Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

 

Interment will be at Bennett Cemetery in Shelby County.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice of charity.
