Vickie Lynn Hardesty, 69

On Friday, September 25, 2020, Vickie Lynn Hardesty, mother of two children, grandmother of four, and great-grandmother of five, passed away at the age of 69.

Vickie was born on February 25, 1951, in Brazil, Indiana to Betty and Ralph Philabaum. On September 9, 1965, she married Fredrick Warren Hardesty. They raised one daughter, Lonie (Alonda) and one son, Scott. They spent happy years as a family traveling the US for Fred’s job in the military. Eventually settling in Shelbyville, Indiana.

Vickie was a beloved grandmother to Brook Hastings, Michael (Sandy) Hardesty, Lexus and Taylor Hardesty. She was a great-grandmother to Gage, Kate, Luke, Cole and Kimberly. Beloved sister to Rick Philabaum, and dear friend to Jackie Grimme.

Vickie’s amazing feasts always brought everyone together for every celebration. Her happiest times were with her family around the dining table.

Her sense of humor and wonderful laugh belied her tough exterior which her family and friends loved and respected. Vickie’s intelligence and razor sharp assessments on life, love and people were always spot on. And once she liked you, you were golden in her eyes.

There will never be better taco pizza, baked beans or banana pudding. Each spring her balcony was filled with flowers and hummingbirds. She will always be missed.

Vickie was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Fred.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, October 1, 2020, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Rev. Beth Crouch officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shelbyville-Shelby County Animal Shelter, 705 Hale Road, Shelbyville, Indiana 46176 or MVP (Merging Vets and Players), 2029 Century Park East, Suite 1500, Los Angeles, California 90067.
