Virgil Eugene West, 93, of Shelbyville

Virgil Eugene West, 93, of Shelbyville, passed away Sunday, December 6, 2020

at Walker House.

 

Born July 10, 1927 in Bridgeton Indiana, he was the son of Virgil Lee West and

Pearl E. (Bramblet) West.  He married Bonnie Lou (Albright) West on August 12, 1948

and she survives.  

 

Other survivors include 2 sons- Henry L. "Hank" West (wife Kathy) of Shelbyville,

Keith E. West (wife Carol) of Jeffersonville; a brother Wayne West (wife Phyllis) of

Brazil Indiana; 3 grandchildren- Jason H. West (wife Maressa), Kimberly M. West, 

Michelle Treasure (husband Sean); 5 great-grandchildren- Addison & Jaxon West,

Braylon, Myla, & Lyndin Treasure; one niece and 3 nephews.  He was preceded in

death by his parents, and a brother and sister-in-law Jay & Kathryn Thompson.

 

Mr. West had lived in this area since 1998, after moving from Greenwood.  He graduated

from Bridgeton High School in 1945, was a member of the West Street United Methodist

Church, and a  72 year member of Bridgeton Masonic Lodge.  He was a veteran, serving

in the US Army Air Corp.  He had been employed as a supervisor in the heat treat dept.

of Detroit Diesel- Allison for 24 years, retiring in 1989.  He also was employed earlier as

foreman at Arketex Brick in Brazil for 15 years, and worked as a coal miner for a short

time as well as being employed at Bridgeton Mill during his high school years.

 

Gene enjoyed watching sports on tv, and loved spending time with his family, grandchildren,

and great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be 11:00 am on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Glenn E. George & Son

Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, with Pastor Bill Horner officiating.  Burial will be in Cottage

Hill Cemetery in Brazil.  Friends may call on Thursday morning at the funeral home from 10:00 am

until the time of the service.
