Maurice (Red-Bus) Owens, 100, former Shelbyville resident

Maurice (Red-Bus) Owens, 100, former Shelbyville resident, passed away Saturday, December 3, 2020 at his residence in Ocala, FL.

 

He was born June 1, 1920 in Edinburgh to Roy Owens and Flossie (Clark) Owens.

 

He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a Navy Bootman 2nd class.

 

He was employed at Naval Avionics for 30 years and retired on June 28, 1985.

 

He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and VFW.

 

Mr. Owens was an avid deer hunter.  He cherished the time he could spend with his family and friends.

 

He married Alice “Ally” Owens on April 28, 1955 and she preceded him in death on September 12, 2012.

 

He is survived by his daughter, Sherry Orr; his son, Maurice W. Owens II; his grandchildren, Brandon Pike, Brittney Orr, Jeron Owens, and Missy Owens; his great-grandchildren, Breanne, Ally, Gabby, Amillana, Ryan, John, Mackenzie, Jarrod, and Ariella; his brother, Jack Owens, and his sister, June Kay.

 

He was preceded in death by parents, his brothers, Harold Owens, Dale Owens, Carroll Owens, and Robert Owens, his sisters, Doris Payne, Maxine Tobias, and Betty Marshall; and his son, Mark “Markie” Owens who passed away on January 7, 1990.

 

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m, Friday, December 11, 2020 at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison Street, Shelbyville, IN 46176.

  

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 12, 2020 at the funeral home.

 

Inurnment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
