George Arthur "Dewey" Mohr, 99, of Shelbyville

George Arthur “Dewey” Mohr, 99, of Shelbyville passed away Thursday, December 24, 2020, at Ashford Place Health Campus in Shelbyville.

 

He was born August 24, 1921, in Shelby County, the son of George H. and Edna Mae (Shaver) Mohr. On February 6, 1943, he married Katherine Glass, and she preceded him in death on October 14, 1992.

 

Dewey is survived by his daughter, Peggy Hubler of Shelbyville; son, Michael Mohr of Hempstead, Texas; grandchildren, Todd Williamson, Dianne Cline, Jeff Mohr and Chris Mohr; great-grandchildren, Rachel Williamson, Jacob Williamson, Tyler Cline, Bradly Cline, Taylor Mohr, Cheyenne Mohr, Hunter Mohr, Savanna Mohr and Samantha Mohr; great-granddaughter, Brooklynn Williamson; and several nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to Katherine, Dewey was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Walter Mohr, Earnest Mohr and Norman Mohr; sisters, Mary Mohr and Della Miloy.

 

Dewey attended Shelbyville High School.

 

He was a life-time member of Mount Gilead Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon. Dewey retired from J.E. Evans Concrete, as a machine operator, in 1986.

 

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1943 to 1945 during World War II.

 

Dewey enjoyed going fishing, dining out and watching birds.

 

He loved to care for his rose garden.

 

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

 

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

 

Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.
