Robin Faye Vaught, 66, of Boggstown, a lifelong Shelby County resident passed away Monday, December 28, 2020, at her home, after a nearly five-year courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer.
She was born August 5, 1954, the 2000th baby born in Rush Memorial Hospital to Oris Allen Mann and Laura Alice (Grinstead) Mann Weinantz.
On February 18, 1978, she married her husband of 42 years, David D. Vaught, and he survives. In addition to David,
Robin is survived by her mother of Franklin; sons, Chad Vaught, and Dustin Vaught and wife, Jennifer, of Boggstown; brother, Bruce Mann and wife, Carla, of Greenwood; granddaughters, Brinley Vaught and Harper Vaught; brother-in-law, Steve Vaught and wife, Linda, of Fairland; aunt, Harriet Grinstead Banich of Brownsburg; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Robin was preceded in death by her father; beloved step-father, Harold “Jean” Weinantz; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Walter and Lois Vaught; brother-in-law, Gary Vaught; grandparents; and many uncles, aunts and cousins.
She graduated from Waldron High School in1973 and attended Indian Creek Christian Church.
Robin dedicated her life to caring for others, especially children who needed a little special attention, understanding and motivation. She positively impacted the lives of untold youth over a 45-year period. She proudly served six years at the Heritage House Children’s Center where she cared for severely disabled, traumatized and mentally disadvantaged youth of all ages. Robin operated an independent day care from her home while raising her own sons. She worked in the Triton Central Schools System initially as part of the kitchen staff and for the past 20 plus year as an instructor assistant where she was loved by all her co-workers and students. She additionally tutored students in reading until she was simply physically unable to do so.
Robin was a great cook and loved to cook. Her signature dishes were demanded for pot lucks and she always insisted on preparing and providing everyone’s favorite items for family, church or school gatherings. When she became too weak to prepare favorite menu items, she coached others to be certain that those were present.
She enjoyed attending her son’s and granddaughter’s youth sporting events, family picnics, walking with her husband and soul-mate David around the farm and exploring trails in countless parks, bird watching along sugar creek, befriending all animals and spoiling her granddaughters who affectionately called her MAMU. She immensely enjoyed the annual family retreat to Traverse City, Michigan.
Private family services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. There will be a larger celebration of Robin's life announced at a later date so that all who appreciated Robin may attend and pay tribute.
