Donald F. Byrnes, 94, of Shelbyville

Donald F. Byrnes, 94, of Shelbyville, passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at Ashford Place.

 

He was born November 15, 1926, in Indianapolis, the son of Francis Byrnes and Emma (Dalton) Byrnes.

 

He married Madeline H. (Wharton) Byrnes on June 16, 1945 and she preceded him in death on May 3, 2005.

 

Mr. Byrnes was a U.S. Army veteran and served in WWII.  He attended Mt. Carmel High School and Kentucky Mountain Bible College in Eastern Kentucky.  He was a dedicated minister to several congregations, including pasturing churches in the Evangelical Methodist Church.  His faithfulness to God took him and his wife, Madeline and children, Ronald, Donna, Danny and Beverly from Stockton, CA to Columbus, IN, to Martinsville, IN, to Parkersburg, WV., and finally to Julian, NC.

 

After retiring from active ministry, he served as District Superintendent for the Central Lakes District of the Evangelical Methodist Church while living in Shelbyville, IN.

 

In his later years, Don enjoyed continuing to preach, filling in for vacationing ministers.  He also was a part-time meat cutter and enjoyed a hobby of antiques and collectibles during his lifetime.

 

Don is survived by his wife, Lois Byrnes, whom he married on February 5, 2011; his son, Ronald (Phyllis) Byrnes of Columbus; his daughter, Donna (David) Blondell of Taylorsville; his son Danny (Rhonda) Byrnes of Columbus; his daughter, Beverly (Jerry) McIntire, of Shelbyville; brothers, Leroy Byrnes of Mooresville, Lawrence (Marion) Byrnes of Goshen, Jimmy (Judy) Byrnes of Mooresville; 9 grandchildren, Lisa, Leah, Jeana, David, Jennifer, Shawn, Nathan, Jeremy, and Bradley; 10 great-grandchildren, Bryan, Brandon, Amanda, Devon, Lauryn, Jerod, Jocelyn, Austin, Kaylan, and Vivian, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

 

Don was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Madeline, and 11 siblings, Ernie, Raymond, Tom, Max, Mildred, Jean, Grace, Phyllis, Renee, Midge, and Doris.

 

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to Noon, Saturday, February 6, 2021 at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison Street, Shelbyville, IN 46176.

 

Funeral services will follow at Noon at the funeral home with Reverend Jim Coulston officiating

 

Burial will be in Little Blue River Friends Church Cemetery.
