Russell Ballard Benfield, Jr, 74, former Shelbyville resident

Russell Ballard Benfield, Jr, 74, former Shelbyville resident, passed away March 2, 2021 at Corner Stone Villages Hospice House, The Villages, FL.

 

He was born February 19, 1947 to Ruth Eleanore (Ash) Duvall and Russell Ballard Benfield Sr.

Russell is survived by his daughters: Kimberly Stover – Guthrie, OK and Teresa (John “JR”) Retzlaff – Lakeland , FL. his brothers,  Carey “Allen” (Fredricka) Benfield – Shelbyville, IN, Norman (Peggy) Benfield – Covington, GA and Darrell (Sandra-deceased) Benfield – San Diego, CA, his grandchildren,  John Paul (Kimberly) Stover, Edmond, OK, Brooke Hatton, Shelbyville, IN, Michael Stover, Yukon, OK, Brittney Retzlaff , Shelbyville, IN,  Erik Lovitt, Shelbyville, IN, Aaron “AJ” Lovitt, Shelbyville, IN, Gracie Retzlaff, New Castle, IN, his great-grandchildren, Ekzekial, Isaiah, Isabela and Gabriel Garcia, Shelbyville, IN;  Jaxon & Shelby Stover, Edmond OK , and Donovan Stover, Yukon, OK.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Brenda Sue Benfield, and stepson Shane Alan McDonald.

 

Russell was known to many as Benny or Junior.   He served in the U.S. Army from 1972-1974 and was a lifetime member of American Legion Post #70 (Shelbyville). He was also a member of the VFW Post #2297 (Lakeland, FL) as well an active member of the Cooties, American Legion Post #4 (Lakeland, FL) and an Endowment Member of the NRA.

 

The American Legion Post #70 Honor Guard will present a military service at Forest Hill Cemetery July 10, 2021 @ 3:30pm.

 

A dinner reception will immediately follow at the American Legion Post #70 for all family and friends to attend.

 

Funeral Directors Greg Parks, Sheila Parks, and Stuart Parks are honored to serve Russell’s family.
