Robert Eugene Coers

Robert Eugene Coers passed away at his home on September 16th after losing his battle with cancer.

He was born on December 31, 1940 and the son of Floyd and Margaret (Snyder) Coers.  He leaves behind his wife, Dorothy (Dotty) Coers; children, Mark Coers of Shelbyville, Beverly (Todd) Byrd of Greensburg, Chris (Giuliana) Coers of Lakeland, Florida, Tina (Tony) Alvarez of Valrico, Florida, Desiree (Keith) Gilbert of Lebanon, Tennessee, Kim Neeb of Shelbyville, Jerry (Cindy) Killey of Shelbyville, and Tonya (Barry) Harris of Shelbyville.  Siblings include, Barbara (Jim) Sartin of Shelbyville, Edward (Sue) Coers of Rushville, and Mary (William) McGuire of Madison.  Robert has 16 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.  He has several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters; Virginia Jacobs of Richmond, Virginia, Dorothy Landwerlen of Shelbyville, and Joan Jasper of Indianapolis.

Robert graduated from Waldron High School in 1959 and served in the Air Force Reserves from 1960-1965 as an aircraft mechanic.  He was skilled in woodworking and received his electronic electrical engineering degree from Tampa Technical Institute in 1965 while working as an electrician helper.  He worked as an industrial electro technical electrician for many years, retiring in 2000.

After retirement, he and his wife spent their winters in Ft. Myers, Florida often providing food and other services, also witnessing to the homeless.  During the summer, he taught Bible Study at the Grace House in Shelbyville and would often prepare their meal on that day.  He often held Bible Studies in his home with friends and relatives.

Robert was an active member of the Blue Ridge Christian Church.  He was a loving husband, a compassionate father, and a faithful servant to his Lord and Savior.  He always put others and their needs before his own.  He enjoyed most of all storytelling and teasing his grandchildren.  He also enjoyed camping, fishing, and witnessing to others.

A gathering of friends will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, September 19th at Murphy-Parks Funeral Services.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, September 20th at the funeral home with Reverend James Thurman officiating.  Burial will be in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.  The funeral service will be livestreamed on Murphy-Parks Funeral Services facebook page.

Funeral Directors Greg, Sheila, and Stuart Parks are honored to serve Robert's family.
