Betty Mae "Bette" Lux, 94, of Waldron

Betty Mae “Bette” Lux, 94, of Waldron passed away on September 30, 2021 at St. Paul Hermitage in Beech Grove, IN. 

  

She was born June 5, 1927 in Shelbyville, IN to Edward and Henrietta (Lieland) Lux. 

 

Bette graduated from St. Vincent’s Elementary School and then proceeded to graduate from Waldron High School. 

  

She was a free-lance writer and photographer for 12 years, editor of Hoosier Business Woman, quarterly of the Indiana Federation of Business & Professional Women’s Clubs from 1975-1990. Bette wrote history of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church (Shelby County) in 1982.  She created monthly publication, in “Pathways”, at St. Vincent for over 20 years. 

 

Bette was a member of several organizations including being a Lifetime member of St. Vincent’s Catholic Church; Secular Oblate of Saint Benedict of Saint Meinrad Archabbey, in St. Meinrad, IN; St. Ann’s Altar Society of St. Vincent’s; former member of the Shelbyville Business and Professional Women’s Club; and Member of the First Archdiocesan Pastoral Council of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.

 

She had a passion to serve in various ministries at St. Vincent’s Catholic Church; she was Eucharistic Minister for over 25 years.  Bette was a Die- Hard Chicago Cubs fan since 1938 and a fan of I.U. basketball. She enjoyed writing, reading, and kept high school basketball scrapbooks, specifically of Waldron High School games. The scrapbook kept records and personal write-ups of hers from the early ‘40s to 1970. 

  

Bette is survived by several nephews, nieces, cousins, and many friends.    

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and 8 brothers. 

 

Visitation will be Monday, October 4, 2021 at 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Vincent’s Catholic Church.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be follow at 11a.m. at the church with Father Paul Landwerlen officiating.

 

Burial will be in St. Vincent’s Catholic Cemetery.
