Larry Glenn Martin Sr., 75, of Fountaintown

Our cherished father, Larry Glenn Martin Sr., 75, of Fountaintown, went to be with our Lord and Saviour on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born at home on July 6, 1946, in Hardin Co., Kentucky, the son of John Franklin and Willie Mae (Townsend) Martin.

Larry is survived by his son, Larry Glenn Martin Jr. of Shelbyville; daughters, Michele Jean Roeder and husband, Steve, of LeHigh Acres, Florida, Melissa Ann Martin and husband, John Gribbons, of Greenwood, Marsha Lynn Martin of Whiteland, and Melinda Denise Martin, of Shelbyville; sisters, Ina Joyce McMillen and husband, Darrell, and Darlene Henderson and husband, Don, both of Kentucky; mother of his children, Bonnie Martin of Edinburgh; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Eddie Purvis and James Martin; sister, Bobbie Jean Mathias; granddaughter, Sherry LeAnn Gribbons; and significant other, Carolyn Nicely.

Larry was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1964 to 1970, with two years being in Germany, during the Vietnam Era.

He was a skilled trades troubleshooter and tool and cutter grinder, at Navistar for 32 years, retiring in 1997.

Larry was raised in the Southern Baptist Church.

He was a member of the Capital City Lodge No. 312 F&AM.

Larry was a self-taught guitar player and enjoyed listening to Hank Williams Sr., Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Merle Haggard and Patsy Cline.

He also enjoyed being outdoors and spending time visiting with friends and family. Larry was a great teacher and taught others to “take care of business”.

Larry had a giving heart and donated to several worthy causes including; Smiles, Christian Broadcast Network, St. Judes, UNICEF, Wheeler Mission and Shriners Children Hospital.

Visitation will be from 10 am to Noon, Saturday, November 27, 2021, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

Funeral services will be at Noon at the funeral home, with Rev. Bill Horner officiating.

Interment will be at New Palestine Cemetery in New Palestine, with military rites conducted by the local military committee.
