Sylvester Ezekiel Cooper, 87, of Shelbyville, passed away Friday, December 31, 2021 at MHP Medical Center.
Born December 7, 1934, in Ruggles, Kentucky, to James T. Cooper and Florabell (Lewis) Cooper. He married Janet Ann (Shortridge) VanScyoc Cooper on December 25, 1983 and she survives.
Other survivors include 12 children: Robin Miller (husband Timothy) of Midland, TX; Bill Cooper (wife Robin) of Muncie; Martha Jones of Muncie; Diane Essex (husband Jack) of Shelbyville; Geary VanScyoc (wife Karen) of Sheridan; Carla VanScyoc of Shelbyville; Sue Goodrich (husband John) of Shelbyville; Jon VanScyoc (wife Reyounora) of Las Vegas; Cheri Justus of Shelbyville; Brenda Browning of Mize, Mississippi; Steve VanScyoc (wife Elizabeth) of New Palestine; and Amy Daniel (husband Shannon) of Shelbyville. He is also survived by his sister, Louise Griffin of Muncie; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 7 brothers and sisters.
Mr. Cooper had lived in this area since 1990 after moving from Daleville, IN. He had been a drywall finisher for 24 years for Union Local #47 of Indianapolis and had also served as Building Inspector for City of Shelbyville for a few years. He graduated from Gaston High School in Gaston, IN in 1953 and attended Ball State University.
He was a U.S. Army veteran attaining the rank of Spec 3rd Class and serving in the Korean conflict.
Mr Cooper enjoyed fishing and playing guitar. He was a very hard worker and loved his family and grandchildren dearly.
Funeral services will be 12:00 noon on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, with Dr. Robb Barlow officiating.
Friends may call from 11:00 am until the time of the service. A military graveside service will be observed.
