Martha J. Alley, 90, of Fairland

Martha J. Alley, 90, of Fairland, passed away Monday, January 10, 2022 at her residence.   

  She was born December 6, 1931 in Indianapolis to Val T. Bunch and Virginia (Tooley) Bunch.

 She had lived in Shelby County since 1956.

  Martha graduated from George Washington High School in Indianapolis.  She attended Butler University for 1 year, taking music courses at the Jordan Conservatory of Music. 

 She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Greenfield. She formerly attended Shelbyville Baptist Temple where she was the pianist for over 45 years.

  Martha taught music and kindergarten at Fairland Baptist Church and Shelbyville Baptist Academy.

  In addition to playing at weddings and funerals she provided private piano lessons.

  Her musical talent brought comfort and joy to many people through the years. 

She enjoyed spending time with family and hobbies included sewing and reading.

  On July 1, 1956 she married John Alley, Jr. and they enjoyed 64 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on October 22, 2020.

  Martha is survived by her son, Daniel (Nina) Alley of Greenwood;  daughter, Valerie (Rob) Prather of Fairland; son, Joseph Alley of Darwin, Australia;  grandchildren, Rachel Huffman, Rebecca Downing, Christopher Alley, Megan Monnier, Emily Alley, Andrew Alley, Gabriel Alley, Loreena Alley, and Virginia Alley; and her great-grandchildren, Avery, Aidan, Alec, Asa, Amelia,

 Theodore John, and Harrison.

 She was also preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers. She is survived by 1 sister, Ruth Taylor (Gene) of Fairland.

 Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, January 17, 2022 at Hope’s Point Church, 1703 S. Miller Avenue, Shelbyville, IN. and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at the church.

 Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Rick Cochran and Pastor Tommy Hensley officiating.

 The family requests that everyone attending the visitation and service were a mask for everyone’s protection.

  Burial will be in Fairland Cemetery.

  Funeral Directors, Greg Parks, Sheila Parks, and Stuart Parks are honored to serve Martha’s family.

  Memorial contributions may be given to the Gideons International for the purchase of Bibles.
