Maurice "Mo" James Whittemore Jr

Maurice "Mo" James Whittemore Jr. passed away Thursday, January 20, 2022.

 

He was born September 1, 1934 in Richmond, Virginia to Maurice James Whittemore Sr. and Ladislaw Dawidowich.

Mo is survived by his four children Roberta "Bobbi" L. Whittemore, Maurice J. Whittemore III, David A. Whittemore, Mark L. Whittemore, and six grandchildren and, his brothers John, Tom, Jim and, sister Grace Davis.

Mo was preceded in death by his beloved wife Elizabeth "Betty" Whittemore, his parents, and brothers Paul and David.

Mo was an electrical engineering Purdue University Graduate (1956). Mo & Betty met on campus. They married and lived in Indianapolis, Rushville, and Kokomo before moving to New Palestine in 1969.

 

Mo opened the family business, 700 West Recording studio, at their home which has become a part of central Indiana music history – 700West.com. Mo was a musician, composer, recording engineer, inventor, free-flight airplane builder and competitor, he had an interest in the Brandywine Wind Ensemble, he built furniture, instruments, audio speakers & equipment, was a champion muzzle loader.

 

At the age of 72, Mo received his master's degree in music composition from Butler University with his family & grandchildren in the audience cheering him on. His compositions were part of performance programs of the Indianapolis Symphony, the Allentown Band out of Pennsylvania, the Brandywine Wind Ensemble, New Palestine marching band & competition pieces, and used in several national marketing ad campaigns e.g., Vans shoes.

Respect & care of Mo & Betty's loved ones during COVID-19 is paramount. The visitations and funeral honoring both Mo and Betty will be brief, masks are required, and a live-stream will be available for those wishing to participate virtually.

 

Services will be Thursday, January 27, 2022, at 1pm with visitation from 12pm till time of service at Stillinger Family Funeral Service Hendryx Chapel, New Palestine,19 East Main St, New Palestine IN 46163.

 

Burial at New Palestine Cemetery will follow services.
