Rita Marie Veerkamp, 88, of Shelbyville

Rita Marie Veerkamp, 88, of Shelbyville, passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2022

at Ashford Place Health Campus.  

 

Born on May 24, 1933 in New Castle, she was the daughter of Casper & Marie

(Kuntz) Wilmer. She married John E. Veerkamp on February 20, 1954 and he

preceded her on February 26, 2010.

 

Survivors include daughters- Susan Veerkamp (Steve Keen)  of Shelbyville and

Mary Ann (Mark) Wentzel of Greenwood; half sister- Martha Sneed of Hartsville,

2 half brothers- Bert Wilmer and Casper Wilmer both of Decatur County; 3 grandchildren- John Crowe (Courtney), Annie Wentzel and Gracie Wentzel; and great grandchildren- Colton, Corbin and Canaan Crowe. She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse, daughter Karen Crowe, son in law Dennis Crowe, 2 brothers Lowell & Charles Wilmer,  sister Margaret Kroger and 2 half sisters Katie Ledford & Marianna Beckett.

 

Rita had lived in this area most of her lifetime after moving from Decatur County. She was a homemaker and a self employed farmer for many years. Rita graduated from Greensburg High School in 1951 and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Rita's greatest joy was her family, her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and spending time with them.

 

Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Mike Keucher officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday, February 7, 2022 from 4:00-8:00 pm at the funeral home with rosary recited at 4:00 pm.
