Mary Amanda Fishback Nickolas, 97

Mary Amanda Fishback Nickolas, 97, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2022

at Ashford Place Health Campus.

 

She was born   August 11,1924 to parents Everett Fishback and Emma (Meyer) Fishback in Williamstown, Indiana.  They moved to Manilla, Indiana in 1932, and she graduated from Manilla High School in 1942.  She attended Beauty School of Indianapolis and started her beauty shop in a house next to the school. 

 

She married Charles "Tom" Nickolas on November 21, 1945, and he preceded her on July 15, 2011.  

 

She then moved her shop to her home where she operated it for the next 38 years.  She worked second shift at TRW Cinch for 12 years, and at Heritage House Convalescent Center and Heritage Manor, retiring in 2006.  

 

Mary belonged to the Manilla Christian Church where she was baptized at the age of 10 in Pitts Ford.

 

She attended Morristown Christian Church for several years, Prime Time Bible Study, and was a member of Rush County Home Makers Club, attended Indiana Eye Support Group, and the Coffee and Comfort Support Group in Shelbyville.

 

Mary is survived by her sister Linda Fishback Parton of Indianapolis; two daughters Marsha Fishback Neeb, of Shelbyville, Vicki Nickolas Weitzel (Gary), of Manilla, one son Jon Nickolas, of Rushville. 

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse, son Jim Nickolas, daughter Susan Nickolas Lower; 2 grandsons Jamie Nickolas and Trampas Weitzel.  She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren.

 

She loved spending time with her family, and was very happy at the Ashford Place, where she made many made many friends.

 

Funeral services will be 12:00 noon on Friday, March 4, 2022 at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, with Pastor Fred Hickman officiating. 

 

Burial will be in Blue River Wesleyan Cemetery in Rush County. 

 

Friends may call on Thursday evening, March 3, 2022 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Memorial contributions can be made to: OUR Hospice of South Central Indiana, Manilla Volunteer Fire Dept., Morristown Christian Church, all in care of the funeral home; Layton Cemetery Association, 2896 S. 600 E., Franklin Indiana, or Blue River Wesleyan Cemetery, 534 N. 900 W., Arlington, Indiana 46104.
