 Patricia J. Garrett, 89, of Shelbyville

Patricia J. Garrett, 89, of Shelbyville, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2022 at St. Francis Hospital.

 

She was born June 8, 1932 in Shelbyville to Benjamin “Benny” Smith and Helen (Matthews) Smith.

 

Patricia graduated from Shelbyville High School, class of 1950 and was a graduate of Indiana Business College. After completion of Indiana Business College, she was employed by RCA in Indianapolis. Then she worked at J.C. Penny Co. in Shelbyville, before finding her calling in banking. She was employed as a bank bookkeeper at Shelby National Bank for nearly 3 decades, retiring from J.P. Morgan Chase. 

 

Patricia was a lifetime member of Second Baptist Church and the Second Baptist Church Missionary Group.  She loved to read and was an enthusiastic basketball fan.  She enjoyed babysitting and taking care of the kids.  Her most cherished times were spent with her family and loved ones.

 

She married James E. Garrett on January 10, 1959 and he preceded her in death on April 29, 2008.

 

Patricia is survived by her son, James E. Garrett, Jr. (Tonita); grandson, James E. Garrett III; granddaughter, Taylor Taylor, nieces and nephews, Barbara Helen O’Banyon, Teresa Floyd, Mary Ruth Crowe, Timothy E, O’Banyon, Michael Smith, Vincent Smith, Jr, Judy Garrett Shelton, Laurie Jean Garrett-Cobina, John Garrett Wicks, William G. Garrett, Steven M. Wicks, a host of great-nieces and nephew, and several great-great-nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her grandson, Thomas Leon Garrett, her son, Kevin W. Garrett, nephew Roger O’Banyon, nieces Donna Powell, Tina Garrett and Delores Smith, 3 sisters and 1 brother.

 

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m, Friday, April 1, 2022 at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison Street, Shelbyville, IN 46176.

 

Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Reverend Tony Lambert officiating.

 

Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
