Nancy V. Soller, 83, of Indianapolis, formerly of Shelbyville

Nancy V. Soller, 83, of Indianapolis, Indiana, formerly of Shelbyville, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at Altenheim Senior Living in Beech Grove, Indiana.

Born November 8, 1938 in Schenectady, New York, to August Richard Ryan and Frances Agnes Ruth of St. Louis, Missouri, and later Shelbyville. Nancy married David Urban Soller on June 30, 1962 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Shelbyville. David preceded her in death on February 8, 1986 in Beech Grove.

Nancy graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1956 after moving from Schenectady at the beginning of her senior year and from Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana in 1960 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Nancy had many hobbies. She was a published author, painter, an avid gardener, scrapbook creator, a nutrition enthusiast and a talented crochetier. She enjoyed singing religious and traditional songs and playing piano. Among her favorite songs were “I Want to Hold Your Hand” by the Beatles and “Amazing Grace.” She had a brilliant mind and an exceptional memory for small details. For many years she volunteered her time at the Society of St. Vincent de Paul-Indianapolis Archdiocesan Council. While a student at Saint Mary’s College, she was one of two girls selected to inset color tiles in the Jesse Tree as part of a large religious mural on the outside wall of Moreau Center for Arts which remains there today.

Nancy is survived by her five beloved children, Thomas David Soller and wife, Bonnie Jo Seybold, of Indianapolis, Robert Richard Soller and wife, Darla Sue Peoples, of Gilbert, Arizona, Daniel Edward Soller and wife, Alexandra Nowotny, of Springfield, Virginia, Patrick James Soller and wife, Joanne Louise Chesterson, of Greenwood, Indiana, and Mary “Molly” Frances Soller of Greenwood; brothers, Stewart Richard Ryan and wife, Rita Marie Sandman, of Norman, Oklahoma, David John Ryan and wife, Suzanne Hochstetter, of Carmel, Indiana; eight grandchildren, Andrew J. Jewell and wife, Courtney Marsh, Ryan P. Soller, Kathleen M. Soller, Elizabeth G. Soller, Kayla N. Soller, Cameron M. Soller, Benedict D. Soller, and Victoria C. Soller; two great-grandchildren, Emerson K. Jewell and Blaire M. Jewell.

In addition to her husband, David, Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, August Richard Ryan and Frances Agnes Ruth and her dear Aunts Mary Magdalen Ryan and Mary Virginia “Tante” Ruth.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 3, 2022, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville, with the rosary recited at 1:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 4, 2022, at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, 125 E. Broadway St., in Shelbyville, with Father Mike Keucher officiating. Interment will be at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Shelbyville where she will lie in rest beside her husband.
