Charlotte Bates, 94, of Shelbyville

Charlotte Bates, 94, of Shelbyville, passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at Ashford Place Health Campus in Shelbyville.

She was born May 25, 1927, in Clinton, the last of nine children to William Everett and Olive Bertha (Davis) Bates.

While in school, Charlotte was a member of the Girl Scouts. After graduating high school, Charlotte went on to the nursing programs at Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, OH and Marion College in Indianapolis, IN. After college, she went on to become a Missionary in Bolivia, then worked for and retired from Hancock County Memorial Hospital as an ICU Supervisor. She was a member of Pilgrim Holiness Church in Franklin, IN.

Charlotte leaves behind her daughter, Ricki and grandsons Derrick and Alec and many nieces and nephews as well as a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her siblings Everett, Robert, Della, Ralph, Charles, Kenneth, Myron, and Howard.

Even though Charlotte is now gone, she will be remembered fondly for her spirited personality and her ability to power through difficult situations. She loved God with her whole being and therefore was able to show extraordinary love to her family and others. She dedicated her life to the caring of other people less fortunate than herself.

Visitation will be from 11 am to noon, Thursday, April 7, 2022, at Franklin Pilgrim Holiness Church, 1000 Hospital Road in Franklin.

Funeral will be at noon Thursday, at the church, with Pastor Tim Forsee officiating. Interment will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Bennett Cemetery in Shelby County.

Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeal Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
