Richard Allen "Rick" Handlon, 63

Richard Allen “Rick” Handlon, 63, a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend left this world on April 7, 2022 to be with our Savior.

 

He was born on March 18, 1959, in Madison, Indiana to Richard Ashley and Wilma Holt. 

 

Rick grew up in Madison until moving to Shelbyville with his family. After residing in Shelbyville for many years, Rick went to Okachobee, Florida where he found deliverance from his addiction. He remained free until his passing.

 

Rick was hard working and enjoyed telling people about Jesus. He had a passion for teaching God’s word and sharing His testimony. Rick enjoyed a good joke and loved being a practical jokester. He had an infectious smile that drew people in. To know Rick was to love Rick.

 

Rick came back to Shelbyville from Florida in 2010 and became very involved in Hope’s Point Church. Under the leadership of Pastor Mohr, they founded Hope’s Alive Ministry, where they impacted many lives through scripture and recovery teachings. He spent most Wednesday and Friday evenings leading a Bible study.

 

Rick took pride in being a gifted handyman and enjoyed the company of those he worked with at Kelly Services.

 

He leaves behind two daughters, Tori (Bobby) Schlageter. Trisha (Adam) Applegate, a son, Joey Handlon. grandchildren, Jaron, Wyatt, and Owen Schlageter, Hunter and Maci Applegate, Gage Handlon, sisters Marcia Tackett, and Debbie (George) Ayler, several nieces and nephews, a lifelong friend, Emmett Wakefield, and a very good friend in Christ, Sy Stohry.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Ret. LCDR William (Bill) Morgan.

Visitation will be held at Hope’s Point Church, 1703 S. Miller Ave. Shelbyville, IN. 46176, from 4pm to 7pm on Monday April, 11, 2022.

 

Funeral service will follow at 7 pm at the church with Pastor Greg Albert officiating.

 

Public graveside service will be held at 10 am Tuesday, April 12, 2022, in the Heroes of Honor and Glory Veteran’s section in Whispering Hope Memorial Gardens.  

 

Funeral Directors, Greg Parks, Sheila Parks, and Stuart Parks are honored to serve Rick’s family.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to Hope’s Alive Ministry in care of Hope’s Pont Church.
