Mary A. (Tucker) Bennett, 84

Mary A. (Tucker) Bennett, 84, passed away Monday, April 25, 2022 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.

 

She was born December 31, 1937, in Shelbyville, IN., to Ralph Edward Tucker and Loretta Faye (DeWitt) Tucker.

 

She married Jerry Edward Bennett on November 9, 1958 and he survives. She is also survived by her sons, Bret (wife, Shawn), and Michael (wife, Tina), daughter in-law Angela (Bennett) Murrey, grandchildren, Jason Haas, Chasity Bennett, Brittany DeBacker, Matthew Bennett, Christopher Bennett, Curtis Bennett, Cassie Bennett, Jacob Edwards, and Hannah Murray, and 9 great-grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, J. Duane Bennett, great-grandson, Andrew Duane Bennett, sisters, Lavaughn Kendall, Loretta Armstrong, Barbara Bowers, Linda Hill, and Beverly Berry and her brothers, William Tucker, Jack Tucker, Robert Tucker and Richard Tucker.

 

Mrs. Bennett graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1956 and from Indiana Cosmetologist School in 1960.  She worked in retail for many years.  Mrs. Bennett enjoyed working in the cafeteria at Shelbyville High School before retiring from there.

 

She was a member of Little Blue River Baptist Church. 

 

She enjoyed bowling and quilting.  She was a member of the Stitchin’ Sisters Quilt Club.  Mrs. Bennett made many quilts for disabled Veterans and each of her family members. Some of the quilts that her quilt group made for the veterans are still on permanent display at the Indiana War Memorial in Indianapolis.

 

Her family and friends were most important to her and she cherished the times she spent with them.

 

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 27, 2022 from 10am to 2pm at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison Street, Shelbyville, IN. 46176.

 

Funeral services will follow at 2pm at the funeral home with Reverend Ray Berry officiating.

 

Burial will be in Miller Cemetery at a later date.

 

Funeral Directors, Greg Parks, Sheila Parks, and Stuart Parks are honored to serve Mrs. Bennett’s family.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Riley Hospital for Children, 500 N. Meridian St., Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46204 or in care of the funeral home.
