Steven Lee Hamilton, age 74, of Greenfield, formerly of Shelbyville, passed away July 3, 2022 in St. Francis Hospital-South/Franciscan Health, Indianapolis.
He was born February 27,1948 in Shelbyville, IN the son of the late Wilbur Russell Hamilton and Treca Bell (Yarber) Hamilton. He married Roberta Linville and she preceded him death in 2010. He then married Linda (Hollin) on May 24, 2020 and she survives.
Steven attended Charles Major Elementary, Shelbyville Jr. High and Shelbyville High School graduating in 1966. He served two years in Japan as an Army medic treating wounded in Vietnam War casualties. He lived in the area his lifetime. He was employed with the Indiana State Highway Department where he mowed grass and plowed snow both Shelbyville and Greenfield facilities for 35 years retiring in 2010.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Roberta Linville Hamilton; siblings, Kenneth, Esther (Smith), Rachel (Vargovich), Loretta, Virginia (Simmerman-Pile), Ellen (Hood-Garner) and Wilbur Hamilton, Jr. His survivors include his loving wife Linda (Hollin) Hamilton; step-daughter, Linda Hischemiller of Indianapolis,IN; step-son and wife Ken and Tammy Wheeler of Indianapolis, IN; several nieces and nephews and cousins; siblings, Ron (Marsha) Hamilton of Shelbyville, IN; Brother in law and Sister in law, Ron and Sue Tarplee of Greenwood, IN; and 4 step-grandchildren.
Steve loved IU basketball, newspaper puzzles, classic 60s and 70s rock and roll music, yard mowing and trimming, fishing and perhaps scratching too many lottery tickets. He loved life; relished retirement; and has a warm sense of humor. He was a creative, articulate wordsmith and very good at creating nicknames, expressions and descriptions of people, places and events in his life. He was devoted to his family and friends; was quick to apologize or forgive and slow to anger. He never turned down a request for help. He will be sorely missed.
Funeral services for Steven will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at 11:30 am in Glenn E. George and Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Rd., Shelbyville, IN with Brother Bob Langdon officiating.
Visitation will be on Saturday in the funeral home from 10 am until service time.
Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
