High Hammer, 87, Greenfield

High Hammer, 87, Greenfield, passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2022. He was born on January 9, 1935, in Tompkinsville, KY, one of eight children to Richard T. and Vessie (Ford) Hammer.

 

He attended schools in Tompkinsville. He then served in the U.S. Navy. He married the love of his life, Floy Marie Strode, on November 4, 1958.

High was a simple man. He enjoyed attending auctions and buying antiques. He and Marie would often travel to visit his Navy comrades and that of both of their families in Kentucky. High also enjoyed nature. He was very proud of his numerous beehives, bird feeders, hummingbird feeders, and vegetable gardens. High worked as a concrete finisher for a few concrete construction companies before joining Midwest Concrete and Pumping in Indianapolis. He retired with them in 2004.

High is survived by his loving wife Marie of 63 ½ years; their son, Mark Anthony Hammer; grandson, Robert Lowell (Hunter Christine) Welter; great-grandchildren, Harper Jo and Hudson Lowell; brother, Travler Hammer; and many nieces and nephews.

High was preceded in death by his parents; son, Richard High Hammer in 2000; sisters: Vida Roth and Tonnie Giddings; and brothers: Calvin Hammer, Cass Hammer, Charles Hammer, and Jerry Hammer.

Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Greenfield, has been honored to serve the Hammer family locally.

 

There will be a visitation at Bartley & Sons Funeral Home, 204 Columbia Avenue, Tompkinsville, KY in the near future. Our website will be updated as necessary to reflect that date and time.

 

High will be laid to rest next to his son Rick in Monroe County Memorial Lawn, Tompkinsville, KY, with military honors afforded.
